Camp

There are five kinds of camps. Each are filled with recreation, adventure and most importantly, Bible Studies. (1) This year we have about 13 more camps scheduled and run by our team. During these camps, we plan, advertise, and organize for different age groups. The counselors are trained by some of our team and they are prepared to support the theme Biblically. (2) The camp is also rented out to schools and Christian organizations. This helps us to pay the camp’s utility bills and brings in a bit of extra money for repairs. (3) Eric, along with his brother Jose Luis, has developed a program using nature to teach about God’s hand in creation. This is a new program and we have had 2 trail runs. The director of the Camp is thrilled with the activities and wants to implement them in other ways as well. It is our hope that this camp will generate extra money to help pay some of our camp team volunteers who could use the income. For an extra fee, these camps will be offered to Christian schools and organizations to supplement their own curriculum. (4) Eric also offers adventure hiking camps. He offers his services to the high schools. Then takes up to 20 students across the mountain here in Cochabamba. We hope to expand these adventures one day. (5) Service, Work team camps. These help us get all our "to do" list done. We need a new dining hall, and kitchen among many other things!

Eric also serves as a deacon at church. This has been difficult due to the fact that we spend so much time traveling to and from camp. He feels torn about his duties at the church and wishes to do his best, yet, it has proven difficult to put his best foot forward when his other duties interfere.

Camp News

Those big trees that we mentioned awhile back. The big dangerous ones at the entrance of camp that needed to be cut. That job was put off and many of them fell during a rainy windy storm. (There was a camp but, God blessed and protected the campers.) The downed trees are leaning in even more dangerous positions and really need to be cleaned up. Eric hopes to get some help and make a play ground using the trunks of these mature pine trees. He had his chain saw tuned up and is ready to go to work cutting the trees.

Bolivian News

The presidential elections will be held in June. It is quite the joke…Running and elected to run are several known crooks and rebel leaders. The corruption is rampant. The president we have now has been doing a really good job. He was the vice president who had to take over when the elected president was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He is receiving treatment but is not expected to live. However, by law, the vice president can not run two consecutive terms. This will affect the poverty levels greatly. Each new party elected fires everyone and starts over with there own programs and pay salaries. This may not sound too bad. However, the way it is done, many loose jobs, teachers loose salaries, no one knows what is going on, and paper work is forever IN PROCESS.

The Neighborhood Program

We have done very little with the neighborhood kids since school started. This is no excuse. They are in school only half days. I must blame this on nothing but lack of motivation and discouragement. We do hope to have some of the older girls over to have a cooking class (make brownies) and teach them about false religions. The difference between them and us is becoming bigger. I was asked to sponsor a "First Communion" party for one of the older girls. As a result of saying no, there has been some growing distance in our relationships. For example, the parents have now refused to let the youngest daughter go to church with us. So is life. There is so much necessity and so much darkness. Please pray with us for these precious souls in our neighborhood.
