Love INC in Anchorage Update
Love INC in Anchorage received over 30 calls from neighbors in need during the first month of operation. Circumstances and needs have been quite varied. Each call has been an opportunity to listen compassionately to a neighbor’s story and pray with them concerning their situation. Over 252 volunteer hours have been invested in helping out neighbors in need. Volunteers have assisted by answering phones, verifying needs and providing such things as counseling, furniture, transportation, and household repairs. One neighbor, who lives alone, called needing help after knee replacement surgery. After receiving a much-needed request, she wrote to say, “Thank you…the gift and visits made today a day I will remember for a very long time and will definitely be a bright spot on my list of daily blessings.” What a privilege it is to share Christ’s love with those in need. If you are interested in learning how you can join with others in serving our neighbors, please contact Becky Durkee, your Church Ministry Coordinator…
1) Originally, Wanda and I thought that we would contact the CMC’s first when a need was matched with an individual from your congregation; however, as we have moved from theory to practice, that has changed. In an effort to expedite our response to the needs, we are using three options: 1) emailing those in the database who match the needed talent or gift 2) directly contacting those individuals by phone 3) contacting the CMC to request that they make a contact with the individual who has offered their talent. In the event that either option 1) or 2) is exercised, it is our plan to inform you, as the CMC of your church, if and when one of your church members is involved in meeting a need.
2) Some churches have begun to contemplate how their congregation might participate in a gap ministry. I am attaching a fresh list of potential ministries based on calls thus far.
3) We understand the value in remaining flexible and open to God’s redirection. We highly value your input and would love to hear from you regarding:
a. Any ideas or suggestions regarding your personal involvement as a CMC.
b. Any comments or suggestions from your church leadership/members regarding their participation as a church partner and how we might be able to better serve your church.
4) Lastly, we spend ½ hour each day in prayer, prior to receiving calls. We pray for the day ahead, neighbors who have already called, the intake workers, and for our partner churches. If there is any way we can pray for you personally and/or your congregation, please let us know.
Thank you all for your ongoing willingness to serve.
